Extra protection
Wind, rain, heat, cold, noise, vibration, discomfort and stress can all take their toll when you're riding. You'll be more comfortable, more aware and better protected if you wear riding gear with:

- insulation and windproofing if it's cold. Wear tight-fitting dry clothes (except around your feet or hands), cover your neck and protect your face with a windproof cover, and keep yourself extra cosy with inner gloves or mittens
- waterproofing which also allows air to circulate round your body
- protection from heat stress - cover your skin to avoid sunburn and dehydration. The cover you choose should allow air through the front of your body via vents or mesh panels so it can dry your sweat and cool you at the same time. You can also wear a neck cooler or a backpack which is connected by a tube to a water container for drinking water while you are riding.
You can reduce noise by:
- wearing earplugs which cut noise but still allow you to hear other vehicles
- buying a helmet which reduces noise from airflow around your head
- wearing clothes which do not flap around in the wind.
